Cruise and McQuarrie love the cinema experience (a lot) and they are tackling the HDTV bugbear of this video interpolation setting being on by default.
Fine for sport but it ruins movies, making them look like they were shot on a camcorder. These are not the first industry figures to rail against this technology, James Gunn, Edgar Wright, Rian Johnson, Matt Reeves and Reed Morano have all been vocal about its detrimental effect.
With Cruise and McQuarrie in the public eye right now, off the back of Mission Impossible: Fallout and Top Gun 2, it might just hit home with the public this time. It’s been picked up by The Guardian (in an inevitably sarcastic way of course), so it’s getting some column inches.
Just maybe this time the TV manufacturers will listen as well!
