The American Society of Cinematographers will award Wener Herzog with its Board of Governors award at the upcoming 34th ASC Awards on 25th January 2020.
This is the only award that the ASC ever bestow on a non cinematographer, it goes to movie makers who have made ‘significant and indelible contributions to cinema’. You can’t argue with their choice in Herzog. ASC President Kees van Oostrum stated “Werner Herzog is truly a unique storyteller, and we are honored to recognize him for his prolific contributions to cinema.”
Herzog, along with Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Volker Schlöndorff, led the post-War West german cinema movement, the influence of which can still be seen. Werner has been active for decades as a producer, writer, director and occasionally an actor. He remains innovative, unpredictable and groundbreaking in every arena.
The tribute will be made at the 34th Annual ASC Awards for Outstanding Achievement on Jan. 25 at Hollywood & Highland’s Ray Dolby Ballroom. more info at theasc.com
